Hopelawn Supermarket Site

About Hopelawn Supermarket Site

Woodbridge, New Jersey

The closing of Pathmark in 2015 left this 54,000 square foot building essentially vacant and a densely populated neighborhood in the Hopelawn section of Woodbridge without a neighborhood grocery store for the first time in decades. Renaissance Properties worked on behalf of the legacy owners of the site to assess the property, the market, the ongoing needs and obligations, and the consensus was that the site needed a developer to move it forward. Renaissance Properties acquired the property and started the difficult work of correcting the effects of years of stagnation and neglect, cleaning up access agreements with adjacent users, and, most importantly finding a new anchor for the property.

While different concepts and uses were proposed and vetted, it was clear that Woodbridge Township wanted to see a grocery store at the site to service the neighborhood. Renaissance Properties leveraged its network of commercial brokers to ultimately find a grocery operator for the site who bought the property and continued to make the improvements necessary to compete in the modern grocery space. SuperFresh opened its doors in July of 2020.

Renaissance Properties handled the market research, land acquisition, entitlements, access and license agreement negotiation, construction enhancements, marketing, leasing and property management for the site.
